A conserved and restored porcelain case mantel clock with hand painted flowers

The Treatment of an Antique Ansonia Mantel Clock

This antique mantel clock was recovered from a residential fire.  The clock was manfactured in the United states by the Ansonia Clock Company in the early 20th century.  The Ansonia clock company was in business from 1851-1929.  This prized family heirloom had been in the family for almost 120 years.  The clock sustained exposure from soot as well as moisture.

An antique phonograph broken into several pieces

The Restoration of an Antique Phonograph

This antique phonograph was accidentally knocked down during a game of hide-and-go-seek.

We received it in pieces.  Not only was the cabinet and arm broken, but the motor within the interior was dislodged. The phonograph was not functional when it was on display.

The cabinet was disassembled, and the joints were realigned and secured.  The sound box, trip post, taper tube, taper tube support and motor were repaired and assembled.  A new felt pad was installed on the turntable.  The finish on the cabinet was retouched, waxed and hand buffed.  A stylus was installed in the soundbox.

An original 1800s Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk after restoration

Conservation of a Turn-of-the-Century

Louis Vuitton Trunk

The son of a carpenter, French designer Louis Vuitton Malletier started his career as an apprentice at a box-making and packing workshop at the age of thirteen. In 1854, Vuitton started his business from the ground up with his state-of-the-art steamer trunks. The innovative flat profile design made the trunks stackable, while the Trianon canvas exterior reduced the trunk’s weight and made the trunk airtight.
