This original glazed ceramic round dish titled, “Jacqueline at the Easel” by Pablo Picasso arrived to us with the request to safely display it vertically. It was previously display on a tabletop easel, however, that left it vulnerable to accidental damage. The piece is part of an edition of 200 and features Picasso’s second wfire, Jacqueline in front of an easel. We designed a custom shadowbox to display the piece upright on a wall. The shadowbox accommodates the depth and allows the three-dimensional artwork to be displayed with other two-dimensional masterpieces within the collection.
Custom, felt lined metal brackets were fabricated to support and secure the artwork within the frame. The brackets were faux-finished to visually blend with the edge of the piece in order to avoid distracting from the artwork. With the reversible bracket system, the piece can be removed when needed in the future. The brackets and artwork were secured to a sympathetic toned hand wrapped silk mount. The mounted piece was installed into the shadowbox with matching handwrapped silk spacers and Optium acrylic glazing. Optium glazing is a UV filtering, anti-reflective, abrasion resistant, anti-static glazing that is inherently shatter resistant. A black satin finish frame was selected to add contrast within the frame package, as well as to compliment the black linework within the piece.
The Picasso is now safely on display with the rest of the collection. If you have an antique, artifact or sculpture that could potentially benefit from a shadowbox, contact us to learn more and start your project. info@artifactservices.com
